Shivapuri national park is closest national park of the Kathmandu Valley. Hiking to Shivapuri is a short and easy trail. We drive for about 25min to Budhanilkantha Temple which is 8km north of Kathmandu valley, where you will spend some time here, Budhanilkantha Temple is dedicated to the Hindu god Lord Vishnu who is regarded as one of the ‘Trimurtis’, along with Brahma and Shiva. Situated below the Shivapuri Hill at the northern end of the Kathmandu valley, it is considered as one of the largest reclining statues of Lord Vishnu in Nepal standing 5 meters tall (around 16.4 feet) and is positioned in the middle of a recessed pool of water, which is 13 meters (42.65 feet) long. The statue is a black stone structure carved from a single block of black basalt. The name Budhanilkantha stands for “Old Blue Throat”.  

This temple is regarded as a sacred place for Hindus but equally well venerated by Buddhists which states an excellent example of religious harmony in Nepal. After visit this temple we star hike. The hike starts from the Muhanpani which is very near by the Budhanilkantha temple then goes through the road until Nagi Gompa, where hundreds of monks who are living and studying over there .  Nagi Gompa is situated at an altitude of 2330m north of Kathmandu valley just above Budhanilkantha Temple. Now we get the permits to start our hike. Before start hike you need to carry the water and some lights snacks because there is no place to eat on the way to Shivapuri.The trails to Nagi gompa is quiet easier. You will enjoy the walking here which will be around 4hours hike to top of Shivapuri .From the top of the Shivapuri you can see the stunning views of the Himalayas.
