It is located 22 km outside the Kathmandu valley via the village the Pharping, it is one of the major Hindu temples in Nepal dedicated to the Goddess Kali. It sets at the confluence of two sacred streams in a rocky cleft in the forest. The temple is dedicated to the goddess Kali, the most bloodthirsty incarnation of Parvati. Animal sacrifices, particularly of cockerels and uncastrated male goats, are the main way that the goddess is worshipped especially during Tuesdays and Saturdays and during the festival of Dashain

A pathway leads off from behind the main temple uphill to the small Mata Temple on the hilltop, which offers good views over the forest.
