Depart from Kathmandu (via domestic flight to Biratnagar + transfer) to Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve. Enjoy the scenic drive through the eastern Terai with views of rivers, farmland, and forests. After breakfast at your eco-lodge, embark on a morning jeep safari through Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve, observing wildlife such as swamp deer, wild elephants, gharials, and numerous bird species. Enjoy a boat ride along the Koshi River, providing a different perspective of the wetlands and excellent birdwatching opportunities. Return to the lodge for lunch and a brief rest. In the afternoon, go for an evening safari or guided nature walk, spotting nocturnal animals and enjoying the peaceful riverine habitat. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Recommendation

Bring binoculars, camera with zoom lens, and water. Wear neutral-colored clothing to avoid startling animals. Morning and late afternoon are the best times for wildlife spotting, especially for elephants, swamp deer, and migratory birds.

Wake up early for a short morning wildlife walk or birdwatching session to catch the early activity in the wetlands. After breakfast at your eco-lodge, check out and begin your return transfer to Biratnagar (approx. 60–70 km, 4–5 hours drive) or onward to Kathmandu via domestic flight from Biratnagar. Optional stops at local villages or scenic viewpoints route offer final photo opportunities and cultural encounters before departure.

Recommendation

Start early to make the most of the morning wildlife activity. Carry a camera and binoculars, and keep water and light snacks for the return journey. This is an ideal time for final birdwatching and scenic photos before leaving the reserve.
